Natural active ingredients are the main constituents in many expensive exfoliation products. But for the final cosmetic product to lead a long life on those glamorous shop shelves, chemistry sticks its nose where it doesn’t belong and manages to strip away almost all of the nutrients that make active organic ingredients beneficial to skin.

"Over-exfoliation will leave your skin red, tender, and sensitive," says Dr. Nazarian. What a common sense remark, doctor! (thinking of the tricky beauty products that people are rubbing on their faces hoping for the best!).

Cheap, natural and harmless solutions have been always at hand, giving us the exact result anyone, expects from a good exfoliation: dead cells flaking off, clean pores, hence no acne or blemishes. I remember my mother using bread crumbs slightly dipped in source water, baking soda or cornmeal mixed with sunflower oil and honey. It was efficient, and definitely not time consuming!

Over the years my skin turned to get dehydrated and sensitive, we’ve changed a lot of places, they all changed me as well, my comfort zones were a bit challenged at times and yes, my skin honestly whiteness all the above J I used to buy exfoliating products but I’ve realized there is almost nothing I could not reproduce at home. It’s easier nowadays when we have access to the most essential active and organic ingredients market for any cosmetic product we need, and I am talking here about the passionate people who know what they’re doing!

My exfoliating mix is prepared 5 minutes before it’s used, combining organic oils, fresh fruit, natural fillers and salts. Gritty scrubs are a no for my skin, that’s why I replaced the plastic micro beads with grinded organic seeds (pumpkin, flax, sunflower, hemp, sesame), much gentler when worked into the skin, sucking on all impurities.

Exfoliating mix for dehydrated skin: aloe vera gel, hyaluronic acid, raw seed mix, coconut pulp

Aloe leaves contain masses of antioxidants including, beta carotene, vitamin C and E that can help improve the skin's natural firmness and keep it hydrated.

Exfoliating mix for dry skin: turmeric, honey, raw seed mix, royal jelly, resveratrol, coconut oil

A super anti-aging oxidant, Resveratrol is particularly potent, neutralizes free radical damage allowing the collagen to keep on pumping.

Exfoliating mix for oily skin: sea salt, kiwi, aloe vera gel, raw seed mix, baking soda, oatmeal, honey

Kiwi. This is the reason we buy expensive creams and serums that boast of being rich vitamin C. And what can be more promising than going for a fruit that has been clinically proven to have around 92.7mg of vitamin C per 100 grams? (packed with vitamin A, vitamin B6, calcium, iron, and magnesium as well!)

Sea salt is full of trace minerals that rejuvenate our skin, stimulate cell growth and help the skin to retail moisture.

Exfoliating mix for sensitive skin: oatmeal, raw seed mix, strawberry, dragon’s blood, honey

Oatmeal is a very gentle exfoliant, so it’s perfect for sensitive skin. It is a natural anti-inflammatory and is very moisturizing.

Raw honey is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. It kills skin infections and acne. Honey reduces inflammation and hydrates.

Dragon’s blood sap helps to protect the cells of the skin and reduces redness and swelling. It repairs collagen, the main protein that makes up much of our tissues.

Exfoliating mix for combination skin: baking soda, grape seed oil, seeds, caffeine, French green clay, algae.
